Background
She grew up in the US with Portuguese roots, then transplanted herself in the UK.
It’s no surprise that Jules’ launch into writing for animation has been such a success. She already was - and still is - a renowned voice actor who has worked for endless studios around the globe. (Look up her IMDb page and gaze in awe!) And one of the reasons she’s in demand as an actress, is that she can improvise and rewrite in the recording booth, on the fly.
She’s always been a writer!
But her writing became more proactive and prolific in 2020 after launching her children’s storytelling podcast show, ‘Tales & Tea with Nanny Bea’ and then teaming up with David Freedman (multi award winning writer & fellow US/UK transplant), collaborating predominantly on animated features. Their first co-write was Spiked!, which was chosen for official selection at the Annecy 2025 film festival. Three more of their collaborations are now in finance, with two in pre-production. And one film that she worked on independently - ‘Dudley and the Invasion of the Space Slugs’ is due out Spring 2026. Quite the hit rate.
Having played hundreds of cartoon characters over the years, it’s only natural that Jules’ writing is character driven, full of depth and authenticity.
