Bio / Background
Ari Gold was named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s "25 Faces to Watch"
after having three short films in a row accepted at Sundance. He won
a Student Academy Award for “Helicopter,” an autobiographical
retelling of the aftermath of his mother’s death, which was called “the
best short film of the year” by Film Threat, and won top prizes at
short film festivals in the US, France, Germany and Brazil. His previous
short film “Culture” which he directed and starred in, was written up
in the New York Times after its Sundance premiere, and became the
inspiration for a filmmaking collective in the former Yugoslavia, which
he later joined. His first feature, “Adventures of Power,” premiered at
Sundance and went on to win the Audience Choice award at two
festivals, and the Grand Prize at several others. Ain’t It Cool News
wrote of the film, “ADVENTURES OF POWER is a crazy, hilarious, bizarre,
insane movie. And all in the best ways possible." He was raised in
San Francisco and studied at NYU. Ari sings in the bands
“The Honey Brothers” (with Adrian Grenier) and “The Gold Brothers”
(with his twin brother Ethan) and plays ukulele, piano and sometimes drums.
